South African Avocado Growers’ Association Yearbook 1990. 13:61-62 A PRELIMINARY REPORT The influence of N and Casources on pathogenicity of Phytophthora cinnamomi and of Ca-sources on resistance of avocado roots to infection by the fungus

چکیده
Saprophytic growth of Phytophthora cinnamomi indicated that the pathogenicity was not enhanced by addition of Nor Ca-sources to the basal growth medium. Mycelium obtained from the N and Ca-enriched sources and used to inoculate blue lupin seedlings indicated that the pathogenicity of the fungus was reduced by the addition of either N or Ca to the fungus cultures. The detached root technique was used to determine the effect of Ca treatments on the susceptibility of avocado seedling roots cv Edranol to Phytophthora cinnamomi. After treating seedlings for two months with CaCO3 or CaCI2 no difference in resistance could be found.

South African Avocado Growers’ Association Yearbook 1991. 14:13-14 THE INFLUENCE OF CALCIUM ON SAPROPHYTIC GROWTH AND PATHOGENICITY OF PHYTOPHTHORA CINNAMOMI AND ON RESISTANCE OF AVOCADO TO ROOT ROT
The effect of calcium on saprophytic growth and pathogenicity of Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands was studied as well as the influence of calcium on the resistance of avocado to root rot caused by the pathogen. Saprophytic growth of the pathogen was increased significantly by calcium, although the pathogenicity of the fungus was not influenced significantly. Ungrafted Edranol, Duke 7 and Martin Gra...
متن کاملExistence of Phytophthora Cinnamomi as Chlamydospores and Oospores in Roots and Soil
Persistence of the avocado root-rot fungus Phytophthora cinnamami Rands in soil for 6 years without a living host was reported by Zentmyer and Mircetich (8). The authors suggested that the fungus may survive in dead avocado roots as inactive mycelia, chlamydospores or oospores. Blackwell (1) considers chlamydospores of Phytophthora spp. to be resistant structures which allow these fungi to pers...

Phytophthora root rot of avocado, a soilborne disease caused by Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands, continues to be devastating to the cultivation of avocados despite more than 70 years of research on control methods. Phytophthora root rot has been estimated to be present in two-thirds of the avocado groves in California, causing losses of almost 30% of the total value of the crop (5). P. cinnamomi m...
متن کاملPhylogenetic and expression analysis of the NPR1-like gene family from Persea americana (Mill.)
The NONEXPRESSOR OF PATHOGENESIS-RELATED GENES1 (NPR1) forms an integral part of the salicylic acid (SA) pathway in plants and is involved in cross-talk between the SA and jasmonic acid/ethylene (JA/ET) pathways. Therefore, NPR1 is essential to the effective response of plants to pathogens. Avocado (Persea americana) is a commercially important crop worldwide. Significant losses in production r...
